We’ve all had those mornings when you wake up late, time is tight, or you don’t feel like going to the gym because it’s pouring rain and blowing a gale outside. But missing your normal routine doesn't mean you have to rule out moving your body entirely.
Getting some form of movement in the morning is crucial. A quick morning stretch actively lubricates your joints, jumpstarts your blood flow, and releases lingering overnight muscle tension. Even better, it acts as a natural wake-up call, shaking off the grogginess and leaving you sharper and more alert for the day ahead.
To help you get moving without leaving the house, the Salisbury team has you covered:
The 15 Minute Mini Workout Mobility Flow:
- Format: 5 exercises to complete
- Timing: 45 seconds work with 15 seconds rest (repeat for 3 rounds to hit 15 minutes!)
1. Walkouts
Stand tall, bend at your hips, and place your hands on the floor. Walk your hands forward until you reach a high plank position, hold for a brief second to engage your core, and then walk your hands back to your feet to stand up.
2. Squats
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Lower your hips down and back as if you are sitting in a chair, keeping your chest up and your weight in your heels. Push through your feet to return to the starting position.
3. Pushups
Start in a high plank position with your hands slightly wider than your shoulders. Lower your body until your chest hovers just above the floor, keeping your core tight and your back flat. Push back up to the top. (Modification: Drop your knees to the floor if you need to).
4. Sit ups
Lie on your back with your knees bent and feet flat on the floor. Engage your core to lift your torso up toward your thighs, then slowly lower yourself back down to the floor with control.
5. Shoulder Taps
Begin in a high plank position with your wrists directly under your shoulders. Keep your hips as still as possible while you lift your right hand to tap your left shoulder. Return it to the floor and lift your left hand to tap your right shoulder. Keep alternating at a steady pace.
