SUMMER SUN SAFETY, BE SUNSMART!

With the Summer months approaching us very quickly, it is extra important to remind yourself to keep your skin and body protected whilst enjoying the glorious sunshine.

Here at BlueFit the safety of our community and patrons is very important to us and we want to ensure everyone is educated on the small but effective tips and tricks that could really make a difference. Be SunSmart!

According to the Cancer Council Australia, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the country.

There are 6 simple rules that you can improve your safety in the sun, the 6 S’s are:

1.SLIP

Slip on lightweight clothing that covers as much skin as possible. It is recommended that you wear a collared shirt that will help protect the back of your neck from sun damage.

2.SLOP

Slop on an SPF30 or high broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen. It is recommended that you apply a generous amount of sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going outside. This includes applying it to your head, neck and each limb (front and back).

3.SLAP

Slap on a hat. Cancer Council suggests wearing either a broad brimmed, legionnaire or bucket hat. These all cover your face, nose, neck and ears.

4.SEEK

Seek shade and a cool place to rest. The best way to keep sun safe is to avoid being directly in the sun.

5.SLIDE

Slide on a pair of sunglasses. This will help to avoid any eye damage that the sun may cause.

6.SLURP

Slurp on a cool drink of water, or possibly a hydralite. This helps to maintain your levels and avoid any possibility of dehydration.
